I 1919, besluttede to tidligere officerer i det østrigske monarki, violinmager Dr. Franz Thomastik og bygningsingeniør, Otto Infeld, at blive samarbejdspartnere. De stiftede virksomheden Thomastik-Infeld, og opfandt stålstrengen og dermed skabte de en revolution inden for musikverdenen. Pludselig blev den konventionelle tarmstreng udfordret af en ny streng med den højeste kvalitet af tone, præcision og pålidelighed. Det blev modtaget med entutiasme verden over. Thomastik-Infeld strenge bliver stadig produceret i hjertet af Wien, musikkens by. Den dag i dag er Thomastik-Infeld stadig et af de største og mest anderkendte strenge.

Tradition And Quality: Why are Thomastik-Infeld strings so unique?
The string makes the music. The diversity and beauty of the musical timbre depend upon, and, on the one hand, the type of material used for the core and on the other hand, the material spun around the core.

For a perfect sound, Thomastik-Infeld has consistently chosen steel and nylon as the stringcore material for bowed and plucked instruments.

The company, in collaboration with many stars of classic, jazz and pop music, is steadily improving its products. Music strings of incredible variety are manufactured. Besides the standard strings, special strings are designed even for the most ecotic instruments.

Highest standards are guaranteed by ongoing research in Thomastik-Infeld´s own research lab engaging a team of highly specialized technicians. However, tone perfection is achieved primarily by the delicate touch of fingers of the highly qualified women in the workshops: Every string at Thomastik-Infeld is wound and checked by hand.
